About EcoShift
There is a saying that 'what gets measured, gets changed.' EcoShift
applies that philosophy to carbon footprint reduction.
Compare carbon dioxide to other forms of pollution. Trash you can see.
Sewage you can smell. But carbon dioxide is invisible. You can't
see it. You can't smell it. You can't measure it with your normal
senses. So how can you get a grip on the problem and your household contribution?
What EcoShift IS:
EcoShift aims to remedy the information void by providing you with a simple tool
for measuring and tracking your carbon footprint over time. If you're
willing to put in about 5 minutes each month, EcoShift will provide you with a very
accurate picture of your direct carbon footprint. If you're interested
in reducing your footprint, it'll give you the information you need. You'll
know where you stand today...and in a year, you'll know how much you've
reduced.
EcoShift is a FREE, web-based tool. We developed it because we wanted help reducing
our own footprints, and since it's been working for us, we're making it
available to you.
By tracking your carbon footprint, you free yourself from the 'green hype',
you'll know where you really stand, and perhaps most importantly, you'll
become a knowledgeable advocate for change.
We hope you'll join us!
What EcoShift IS NOT:
EcoShift is not a carbon offsetting business. You'll find many websites
that talk about measuring your carbon footprint...but you'll find their primary
goal is to sell you carbon offsets. We don't disagree with the concept
of offsets as a tool in carbon reduction, but we see that as secondary to accurately
measuring, tracking and reducing your personal footprint. It's too easy to make
offsets the first and last stop--sort of like buying absolution.
What EcoShift Does:
Ecoshift allows you to quickly enter information about things that result in
your direct carbon footprint, primarily automobile fuel (gasoline or diesel) consumption,
home energy electricity and natural gas usage, and airline travel. Ecoshift first
turns those into carbon equivalent numbers, and then displays the results in an
informative manner. Some of the home energy components of your footprint may have
a cyclical/periodic nature, and so by entering data for an entire year, you get
a complete picture of your annual direct carbon footprint.
This allows you to see where the majority of your footprint arises from,
which then allows you to make informed decisions about how it might be reduced.
Ecoshift also provides a number of graphical display options for the data, including
pie charts and time series analysis with moving average trends, all customizable
by time period and emissions source. It allows you to track your progress year over
year, and quickly see the reduction you've made.
